Thursday, I added the drypoint plate to a new woodcut/drypoint combination edition. Here is what the wet woodcut looked like after the bath in the late California afternoon. Lauren, one of the models who had posed last year for a Frida portrait came to visit the studio from LA, and I’d just had my first reverse root beer float. Glorious day.
This odd rusty orange is a combination of three woodcut layers: the mint green, followed by the pink (which turned it a dusty purple), followed by a much reduced Charbonnel “sanguine” which is an amazing transparent ferric red that I like to use often.
